Zeta Tau Alpha’s “Think Pink week 2014” started off with a splash of
color this year. Before the week even began, the ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha
covered the University of Arkansas campus with big pink ribbons to promote
their philanthropy, Breast Cancer Awareness and Education. “Think Pink” week is
a weeks’ worth of events sponsored by the Epsilon chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha.
This years “Think Pink” week started off with co-sponsorships from
popular eateries around Fayetteville, Ark. On Monday, Chick-fil-a on Martin Luther
King Blvd. donated a percentage of their proceeds that night to the philanthropy. On Tuesday, Shake’s on College followed Chick-fil-a’s lead and also donated a percentage of their proceeds. An estimated
$1,000 was donated through these two restaurants.
Throughout the week, “Think Pink” booths were located outside of the
Union, Brough Commons, and Wal-Mart. At these booths, members passed out
pink ribbons to increase breast cancer awareness and education. Brianna Forth, philanthropy chair, said that one of her favorite parts of “Think Pink”
week is working the booths. Brianna says she enjoys the booths, because she
loves spreading awareness of breast cancer and that, “another part
that makes it so great is talking to people on campus who have had a loved one
deal with breast cancer, and to hear their personal experience, because it
really makes all of the work worth it when you realize what you’re doing is
really making a difference in so many peoples’ lives.”
Thursday, Zeta Tau Alpha hosted a Pink Pancake breakfast at their
chapter house. U of A students, and people from the Fayetteville community were
able to enjoy an unlimited amount of pink pancakes for a $10 donation to help support
breast cancer awareness and education.
On Saturday the first ever ZTA Think Pink Carnival was held at the
Gardens. At the carnival, different Registered Student Organizations hosted
booths where people from around the community could play carnival games, which included bobbing for apples. Throughout the carnival there was food, fall themed
crafts, and music.
