KKG: Reading is Key Week

The ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma are very passionate about their philanthropy Reading is Fundamental. Through RIF, they help underserved kids discover the joy of reading by providing the children with books and creating a passion for learning.

Kappa hosted their first ever Reading is Key Week from Sunday, March 9 through Saturday, March 15. The week began with King of the Kourt, a three-on-three basketball tournament held on Sunday from 5-9 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club. While many teams participated, team Fly Alpha came in first place while team BYX came in second.

The next event of the week was a cupcake fundraiser held at Bliss on the Square from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Proceeds earned from the cupcakes sold that day were donated to Reading is Fundamental!

Wednesday, Kappa hosted a philanthropy dinner called “Breakfast for Books” from 5-7 p.m. at the Kappa house. Upon arrival, Cat in the Hat greeted guests at the door. The dining room was decorated colorfully with life-size book cutouts. Tickets were $5 each and over 900 tickets were sold! Sausage rolls from Rick’s Bakery, hash browns and assorted fruit were served as the breakfast-for-dinner meal.

Friday, the week ended with their annual philanthropy Reading is Key event. Kappas went to Grace Hill Elementary in Rogers where they were able to play games and read with kindergarten students. In addition, Kappa provided each kindergartener three new books to take home!

Overall, it was an incredible week. The ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma are very thankful for everyone who participated in any of the events and can’t wait until next year!
