It was a fun and exciting semester for Arkansas Alpha! From dance
competitions to celebrating 150 years of Pi Beta Phi, this semester was one for
the books!
Social Events
Pi Phi’s love sisterhood events! These events are a great
way for Pi Phi’s to bond with and share priceless memories with our sisters. On
February 13, Pi Phi hosted it’s very own Galentine’s Day celebration! We danced
to loud music, took fun pictures and decorated desserts with festive toppings.
Another one of our favorite sisterhood events was Pi Phi Recess. During our long
finals week, we took a brief “recess” from studying and had a blast in our
outdoor courtyard. Jump ropes, hoola hoops, music and free snow cones made it an
unforgettable experience.
Functions, functions and more functions! Our exec members
really know how to put the “fun” in function. Some of our favorites this
semester were dynamic duo and thrift shop. We saw duos like the iconic SNL
hosts to an avocado and toast. For the thrift shop function, Pi Phi’s hit the
local thrift shop and went all out! We ended the year with Monmouth, our annual
formal paired with Kappa Kappa Gamma. This is every Pi Phi’s favorite function.
We dressed up in our best dresses, took a nice date and danced the entire
night!
Competitions
One thing is for sure, Pi Phi’s love to dance! This February,
some of our girls participated in a singing and dancing competition against every
Arkansas sorority called Greek Sing. These Pi Phi’s put in a lot of long nights
and hard work, but it sure did pay off. Pi Phi won first place for the fifth
year in a row!
We also participated in Sigma Chi’s annual Derby Days dance
competition. Pi Phi chose the theme “money” and rolled with it. They wore
costumes, painted banners and danced to songs all about money. Pi Phi came out
winning second place out of all eleven sororities!
Philanthropy
Pi Phi’s national philanthropy, Read>Lead>Achieve is
really special to us. Each semester we participate in a program called
Champions Are Readers or CAR. Pi Phi’s go to an elementary school class room
each week and read to kids. At the end of the program, each child receives a
reading certificate and a book. It’s really important for Pi Phi’s to share
their love of reading to the students in our community.
February 28 was Fraternity Day of Service. We had a fun Dr. Seuss
themed event making hundreds of bookmarks. We made the bookmarks into arrows to
benefit kids in following along the lines of their favorite books while they
read. We took the bookmarks to Fayetteville public library and let them give it
to any kid who wanted one!
Pi Phi hosted it’s second Pizookie night! Tickets were only
$5 and each person received an entire pizookie (pizza cookie) to themselves. We
ended up raising of $3,900 for children’s literacy!
Mom’s Day
Our beloved moms came to Fayetteville to spend the weekend
with their favorite Pi Phi’s! We hosted fun events throughout the weekend
including Painting With a Twist, dinner at our new house (including shopping)
and topped it all off with a workout class and brunch! This is one of our
favorite weekends of all!
150 years of pi
phi
This year was extremely special because we celebrated 150
years of Pi Beta Phi! The Ring Ching Roadshow made its way to Fayetteville. In
honor of 150 years of our wonderful sorority, one of our sisters is driving
“Libbie” across the nation to gather stories and celebrate many years of
sisterhood. When “Libbie” and her driver Daphney arrived, we celebrated with
food and shared our favorite memories!
This April we hosted Pi Phi’s Founders Day. Arkansas Alpha
alumni and current members ate yummy food, girls received awards and we
remembered and honored the 12 women who founded Pi Beta Phi 150 years ago.
