Tri Delta is giving
IHOP a run for its money! On April 12, 2017, Delta Delta Delta hosted its
annual pancake dinner, Delta House of Pancakes, or DHOP. Formerly known as Pancake
Pig-Out, this event still had its infamous all-you-can-eat pancakes to benefit
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Members of the U of A community paid
only $5 for unlimited pancakes and sausage, complete with all the toppings. A
whopping 4,200 pancakes were consumed!
This event was particularly special to
our chapter because it is the last philanthropic event to be held in our
original big green house. The weather could not have been better, and guests
enjoyed some entertainment from a few of our members and our dolphin mascot on
the front lawn. Altogether, the U of A community raised over $11,000!
This event would not
have been possible without our amazing Director of Philanthropy, Raelyn Davis,
and her team. DHOP is one of 3 main philanthropy events held throughout the
school year. The others, held in the fall semester, include a golf tournament
during parents’ weekend and Frats at Bat, a baseball tournament that each
fraternity enters. This year, Raelyn founded the first ever “Why St. Jude
Week”, consisting of a candy bar, a doughnut sale, and a percentage night at
Zoe’s Kitchen. Raelyn says, “DHOP was such a HUGE success! Thank you to
everyone who came to support such an amazing cause. We could have not raised
11k without the support and the line out the door for pancakes!”
Our members are especially excited
because we will be taking a trip to visit St. Jude at the beginning of May! We
will get to see the facilities, interact with physicians, and visit Tri Delta
Place, a wing of the hospital created to give patients’ families short-term lodging.
St. Jude’s mission is to one day find a cure for childhood cancer, and research
is performed every day to reach this goal. In addition, patients’ families
never receive a bill from St. Jude. The
Delta Iota chapter loves fundraising for
such a great cause, and we are so excited that DHOP was a success!
