Kappa Kappa Gamma- Books, Blues & BBQ

It’s that time of the year again. The time when leather jackets are acceptable in the 80-degree weather and test weeks come in waves. For Kappa Kappa Gamma this season holds many large opportunities for us to give back to our philanthropy, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), an organization that helps aid adolescent literacy.

On Sept. 20th, Kappa kicked off the year with one our major philanthropy events, “Books, Blues, and Barbeque.” Held at the same time as Fayetteville’s annual “Bikes, Blues, and Barbeque,” this event is a great way to get all student and Greek life involved in helping us raise money and donate to RIF.

Our new chef put together the classic barbeque essentials: pork, chicken, coleslaw, beans, pasta salad, and brownies, a combination worth the long line and entrance fee.

Guests could either pay $5 to get in, or they could donate a children’s book and pay $3 at the door. In addition to 100 books being donated to RIF, we raised over $500 for the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation—a group that works to support our Kappa sisters nationally with things like academic scholarships and training for members and alumnae.

All in all, the event was a huge success for our chapter, and we are excited to see how it will benefit both RIF and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. We look forward to the semester ahead and all the ways we can continue making an impact in the community.
