On Tuesday, March 14,
2017, the Delta Delta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi hosted their annual Pi Day
Celebration. This was the second year for ADPi to hold this event. Meg Plank,
our philanthropy chair, did an amazing job carrying on this tradition.
Panhellenic and IFC
Presidents volunteered to be pied in the face by their chapter’s members for $3.14
to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities. There was also a link online
that anyone could donate to, which raised $1,793 alone! Members of Greek life and
the community came to the Alpha Delta Pi house lawn to pie their president or
just enjoy a pie themselves for just $3. This was a great way for all of Greek
Life at the University of Arkansas to work together for a great cause. Caroline
Hickman, a sophomore ADPi, said, “I loved getting to watch everyone pie their
president and make a huge mess.” It was messy indeed!
All of the proceeds went toward RMHC, which is a home away
from home for the families of sick children. RMHC provides a place to stay,
along with meals and other necessities for the families so they can stay close
with their child while they are receiving the care they need. Pi Day is one of
the many ways ADPi supports RMHC throughout the year. Members also cook meals
for families, donate items in need and go visit to hang out and play with the
kids. What I love most about our philanthropy is that we get the opportunity to
be hands on with RMHC. We have 2 locations we can visit in North West Arkansas,
one in Rogers and the newly opened Ronald McDonald House at the Washington
Regional Hospital here in Fayetteville. We also hold other events such as Roses
for Ronald, ADPi Chili Dinner and percentage nights at local restaurants. Our
goal this semester is to raise $15,000 for RMHC, and with the support we
received from Pi Day we are well on our way! The Delta Delta chapter plans on
having more philanthropy events throughout the semester, such as Pancake
Palooza on May 7th from 9 PM- 1 AM outside the library for hungry
students preparing for finals. We look forward to seeing you there!
