The 2015 Pi Beta Phi Spaghetti Supper was a huge success as members of the entire University of Arkansas community joined together to support children’s literacy. At the event, Pi Beta Phi raised over $2300 to donate to the Pi Beta Phi Foundation. This event is very important to the members of Pi Beta Phi because they are able to see the impact of their donation through the chapter’s ‘Champions Are Readers’ program. Jordan Shy, Pi Phi’s Vice President of Philanthropy, commented, “It’s truly an amazing feeling to know that through events like the Spaghetti Supper we can provide books to over 250 kids in the Northwest Arkansas community.”
The Spaghetti Supper was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 4th, but was moved to Friday, March 6th during Chicken Finger Friday due to the winter weather. While this was a challenge for the philanthropy team of Pi Beta Phi to adjust plans for the event, the entire chapter helped to make the event one of the most successful in recent years! “This year the Spaghetti Supper was definitely a team effort,” said sophomore Emma Von Edwins, “I loved that members from all pledge classes, from freshmen to seniors, were a part of the event whether that was through selling tickets, publicizing the event, or serving spaghetti.”
The members of Pi Beta Phi are extremely thankful for all of the students who purchased a ticket for the Spaghetti Supper. Currently, one in four children group up to be illiterate. Through the support of the entire Greek Life Community, Pi Beta Phi is helping to reduce this statistic through numerous children’s literacy initiatives!
