ZTA: Relay for Life

On Friday April 4, member of the Epsilon chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha volunteered for the Relay for Life at the University of Arkansas. The money raised from Relay for Life events benefited the American Cancer Society.

The ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha volunteered at the Relay for Life, as a part of their philanthropy, Breast Cancer Awareness and Education. ZTA had a booth set up called “Cupcakes for a Cure,” where people could donate $1 and decorate a cupcake.

An estimated 30 Zeta’s volunteered their time Friday night starting at 7 p.m. and ending at 1 a.m. During that time, participants got to go to different Disney themed booths and donate money to the American Cancer Society.

The Relay for Life events are near to the hearts of ZTA’s at the U of A not only because of their philanthropy, but because a member is a cancer survivor. Mackenzie Miller, a freshman member of ZTA, was diagnosed with stage 3 papilloma thyroid cancer on August 15, 2013. So far Mackenzie has finished her first round of chemotherapy, and got news that she will may not have to undergo more chemotherapy.

In reference to the support of her sisters, Miller said that it is nice “knowing that no matter how many miles you have to go, or how many times you fall, there are hundreds of hands there to pick you back up.”

Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of Arkansas is proud to participate in the Relay for Life events, and help people like their sister, Mackenzie, through the American Cancer Society.
