AFLV Central 2014

February, 6, the leaders in the Greek community left for Indianapolis for the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values. AFLV's purpose is to stimulate the growth of fraternity/sorority council and chapter leaders during an extended weekend conference. Their vision is to see fraternity and sorority leaders exemplify ethical values.

This year AFLV invited guest speakers from Phired Up Productions, CAMPUSPEAK, Inc., Ignite Fraternity, and LeaderShape. Keynote speakers touched on a variety of topics affecting Greek life with an enigmatic passion that was contagious to the magnitude where it is sure to spill over into each attendee's chapter upon arriving home.

Annie Rea, Panhellenic VP of Scholarship and Educational Programming reflected on her time at the conference saying, "AFLV Central allowed me to understand how to be a better leader and equipped me with the knowledge and tools to instill change in my community. AFLV allowed me to bond with not only PC but also with IFC, UGC, and NPHC."

"They [Gamma Chis] are the first face a PNM will see of Greek Life. I want to get each Gamma Chi in tune with what her top values are. What motivates her? How does her sorority help her to build upon those values? By having our Gamma Chis talk to the PNM's about values, a chain reaction will start. " said Kat Mullendore, Director of Recruitment Counselors.

Mallori Sando VP of Judicial Affairs said, "Although, we, as individual leaders in our chapter, may not have the negative characteristics or stereotypes the Greek community is labeled with, we all know a guy or girl in Greek life that does live up to those skewed realities. Therefore, we need to be proactively trying to change them. This might mean confronting the idiot in our chapter, but also addressing the topics that are usually avoided."

Alexandra Chunn, VP of Public Relations said, "I learned about different councils through talking to NPHC, UGC, and IFC members and the different ways they recruit, socialize, and express their organization's values. I made amazing friends, shared laughter and frustrations, and ultimately created a new brother/sisterhood that I am proud to be a part of. As we now say, rush AFLV."
